“A sauna session burns 600 calories”

Debunked / no evidence · 0 studies · infrared, traditional

This claim traces to a single non-peer-reviewed 1980s report and has been widely debunked. Any weight lost during a session is water, regained with rehydration. Real caloric expenditure is roughly equivalent to a light walk (~50–100 kcal per 30-min session).

⚠ CaveatAny product making this claim is misleading. Measured energy expenditure during sauna bathing is roughly 1.5× resting rate — comparable to a light walk, not a workout.
